TOASE Attorney Elected to Legislature
Dan Barrett, Of Counsel with Taylor, Olson, Adkins, Sralla & Elam since 2004, was elected to the Texas House of Representatives following a special election run-off on December 18, 2007. Dan will continue to represent District 97 for the remainder of the 80th Legislature.
District 97 consists of most of Southwest Tarrant County and contains all or part of the cities of Fort Worth, Benbrook, Edgecliff Village and Crowley.
The special election was make necessary by the resignation in August of Anna Mowery who had held the seat since 1988. Barrett runs for re-election in November 2008.
Sworn in on December 31, 2007, Barrett was appointed to serve on the Land & Resource Management and Pensions & Investments committees. The Land & Resource Management committee has jurisdiction over the management of public lands; the power of eminent domain; annexation, zoning and other governmental regulation of land use; and various state agencies, such as the School Land Board and the General Land Office.
The Pensions & Investments committee has jurisdiction over benefits or participation in public retirement systems and the regulation of securities and investments, as well as overseeing various state pension and retirement boards.
Barrett's experience with TOASE makes him uniquely qualified to server on these committees.
