Kathleen Wells is a Texas native and honor graduate of Midway High School in Waco, where she was also named as the Betty Crocker Homemaker of Tomorrow.  After graduating from University of Texas at Austin in 1971, Kathleen taught English and history in grades 7 - 11 in public schools in Austin and Salt Lake City, Utah.

In 1979 Kathleen graduated with honors from law school at Texas Tech University in Lubbock, where she won individual and team awards in moot court competitions.

For over 20 years in private practice, Kathleen has tried lawsuits and appealed cases in state and federal courts.

As Director of Legal Services at the Texas Association of School Boards in Austin, Kathleen supervised seven attorneys in providing legal and policy services to over 1,000 Texas school districts, community colleges, and regional education service centers.  Kathleen served as the attorney for the TASB Legal Assistance Fund, coordinated membership and activities of the Texas Council of School Attorneys, consulted with Texas public school officials on legal issues, analyzed bills during legislation sessions, and wrote numerous legal articles and training materials.  Kathleen was a guest speaker at state and national seminars and trained school officials on legal topics such as open meetings, open records, fraud prevention, employment contracts, procurement, conflicts of interest, and the No Child Left Behind Act of 2002.

Kathleen has been active in state and local bar activities, including the District 7A Grievance Committee and the Unauthorized Practice of Law Committee.
