George A. Staples, Jr. Born in Madisonville, Texas in 1940. Mr. Staples received his B.A. in Government from North Texas State University, and received his J.D. from the University of Texas School of Law in 1965. He began his practice in 1965 as an assistant city attorney for the City of Lubbock. He practiced in Victoria from 1968-1971 and in Tarrant County since 1971. He was Executive Director of the Golden Crescent Council of Governments from 1969-1970. Mr. Staples is admitted to practice before the Texas Supreme Court; the Northern, Eastern and Southern District of Texas; the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals; and the United States Supreme Court. He has served as Director of the Texas City Attorneys Association and a member of the Advisory Board of the Municipal Legal Studies Center of the Southwestern Legal Foundation. Mr. Staples is the attorney for six cities and two water districts in four Texas Counties, and defends other cities and public officials in litigation involving civil rights, employment law, eminent domain, zoning and other issues. He has authored many articles on land use law, economic development and eminent domain, and has been a lecturer and panelist on national and state conferences on these and other subjects. He is currently representing the cities of Fort Worth, Grand Prairie and Irving in litigation.
